MarcusCicero Wars refers to the relentless attempts by MarcusCicero and his many alleged sockpuppets to troll RationalWiki before he retired. Taking advantage of the anarchistic nature of the site and the good nature of most members, he was highly divisive and disruptive. MarcusCicero himself considered his efforts successful, but he only declared his intentions retrospectively. For a while, he was barred from RW, but told anyone who would listen that this was part of his plan. We can only assume he does not know the meaning of the word "plan".
MarcusCicero usually tailored his assaults for maximum damage by playing on recent issues or contemporary disputes. For example, he was directly involved in the Great Pissing Contest. Presumably noticing the dissatisfaction among some editors with the difference between the mission statement of RationalWiki and the reality, he launched the, albeit joke of a, RationalWiki Reform Society. During the Great MarcusCicero Blocking Incident he exploited the disagreement between users who wanted to dispose of him by blocking and those who felt blocking was against the spirit of RationalWiki. He attempted to troll the Loya Jirga Incident by using a sock to accuse the most popular proposal of being authoritarian. After the Loya Jirga was formed, he claimed that its formation was his plan all along. Even after he was banned, he continued to attempt to troll RationalWiki, although for a time the only one who would listen to him was Neveruse.
[edit] Cicero contra Gerard, and ceasefire
In the summer of 2010, MarcusCicero began a concerted effort to be a concern troll, insisting that David Gerard was bringing "fascism" to RationalWiki. However, his attacks on Gerard only strenthened Gerard's hand, and in late August, he ceased this line of criticism altogether. Soon after that, he decided, in a bizarre change of heart, to "become a useful editor" and "retired from trolling" for a considerable time; he has since relapsed, however.
