RationalWikiWiki:User rights
From RationalWikiWiki
The following are the user rights on RationalWikiWiki. We have a significant difference from the default MediaWiki user rights: the standard sysop powers have been split between "janitors" and "police".
Contents |
[edit] Editor
Basic user. Editors can edit most pages on RationalWikiWiki, create pages, and upload files.
This wiki is set so users cannot move pages.
[edit] Holyroller
Holyrollers have the rollback ability. This ability is innocuous enough that it will, in general, be given to anyone who has demonstrated that they are not a career vandal.
This group largely exists because Hans Johnson couldn't pass up creating such a silly-named user group. Nowadays, it's handed out like candy to anyone that registers an account and after it has been determined that the account was not a spambot or vandal account. Therefore, you will likely become a Holyroller on your first day here with a registered account.
The name was taken from this, if you're wondering.
[edit] Janitor
Doing exactly what their name suggests, janitors are entrusted with clean-up duties beyond normal editing. They can delete, undelete, move, and merge the revision histories of articles. They may also hide revisions individually within a page's history from the public (to be used in the case of someone posting personal information and to deny vandals any notoriety by hiding the changes they made and who did them).
Note: A merge is irreversible, so please be certain you are merging the correct articles into each other. Additionally, while an individual deleted revision can normally be resurrected, if it is set to be hidden even from sysops, then it can only be resurrected if the entire history is deleted and resurrected. (There should be no real need to hide a revision from sysops, anyways.)
[edit] Police
Responsible for directly engaging vandals, police can block other users (both accounts and IPs) and lock pages to prevent editing. Because these abilities have historically been easy to abuse -- even unintentionally -- a user will be given police powers only if (a) the site needs another policeperson and (b) the user has demonstrated competence and an ability to moderate their reactions to vandalism (i.e., can be trusted to not jump the gun and ban a user with only a couple edits).
[edit] Access
Access is a usergroup which grants access to certain items normally closed to other users (such as to the ability to view deleted revisions and edit the MediaWikispace) without giving them a complete set of powers (no ability to hide revisions, for example). Specifically created to allow Tmtoulouse to help with the more technical aspects of the site as needed without giving him any official power (as a police or bureaucrat, for example).
[edit] Bureaucrat
Bureaucrats have the power to promote and demote other users into the various user groups. They can also rename users if they so request. The title of Bureaucrat should only go to those whom we, as a Wiki community, can trust to use their powers wisely. See RationalWikiWiki:Bureaucrat duties for more information on what is expected of bureaucrats.
