[edit] Elassint
Are you trying to provoke Elassint to suicide? — Unsigned, by: Barbara Shack / talk / contribs
- No. I am trying to be funny, though. Is it working? --Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 19:36, 16 March 2008 (EST)
- I laughed. But then again, I tried to goad both Ryan and Elassint to offing their fine selves in IRC. Does that make me a bad person, or just a Dorothy Parker fan? humanbe in 19:57, 16 March 2008 (EST)

[edit] move
can you pop me a note at RW when the move is complete? Thanks! humanbe in 18:28, 17 March 2008 (EST)
- Is the move pretty well complete now? Pinto's5150 00:38, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
- Indeed. A few pages inadvertently left behind, but that can easily be amended. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 00:42, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
- Excellent, great initiative in moving the wiki here. Pinto's5150 00:44, 18 March 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Sysopship
Thanks for resysoping me --Ryan 00:26, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
- I did promise. FYI, because no one objected, the wiki is in my name, now. Admin and Human are bureaucrats, however, so they can handle almost anything that comes up. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 00:31, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
- I forget where we were talking about this, but I approve of your de-cratting me. Although it's useful for you to have me as sysop, for blocking etc., there is no reason why I should be controlling user rights here. I was actually going to bring this up, so now I don't have to. Heck, I was on the verge of sysopping Barbara Shack. Still might be an interesting idea, though. She does add a "new dimension" of critique of RW and might appreciate the extra buttons here (although they don't help with the language arts, sadly). humanbe in 23:50, 22 March 2008 (CDT)
[edit] email
Can you enable yours please? humanbe in 16:57, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
- Complied. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 19:37, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
[edit] User Creation
I have added dates and references for the creation of several RW user accounts. However, I suspect that these new dates may be inaccurate. For example, the Barikada page reports that account's creation date to be 2-3-08, while I see it as 2-4-08 (at 1:41AM) in the Creation Logs. Dark Matter Nephthys 09:14, 23 March 2008 (CDT)
- That might be a server versus local time issue? humanbe in 13:09, 23 March 2008 (CDT)
- Yes. It should not be an issue on many of the dates. Is there a way to see the date by the server time? Dark Matter Nephthys 13:15, 23 March 2008 (CDT)
- Try checking "date and time" in my preferences, and accounting for the difference between local and server time. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 22:37, 23 March 2008 (CDT)
- I did that before I collected the data, in fact. Dark Matter Nephthys 06:53, 24 March 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Edits to Spica Article
Hi Hans. Thanks for the informative feedback about me in the RWW Spica article. I'm sorry you're tired at the way I edit my own article (no, really, I am). I've added a reply to the article on its Talk page and clarified a few points, I hope. Spica 17:35, 1 April 2008 (CDT)
[edit] logo broken?
It's still at Image:LP_Ratlogo.png but not on pages. Wasn't there a file called something like "image logo url"? — Unsigned, by: Human / talk / contribs
- I followed the instructions to change the logo, to no effect. I will scribblewiki about it. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 23:22, 6 April 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Best of...
Eh, no one else cares but you, mark 'em as you see fit? humanbe in 23:02, 16 April 2008 (CDT)

[edit] My demands
- Make me:
- Sysop
- Bureaucrat
- Checkuser
- Ides!

- No. The site's needs are adequately addressed with our current pool of administrators. Additionally checkuser is forbidden. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 19:26, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- Ooh, you're mean. :) Jellyfish! 19:33, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- Brilliant! I never dared hope I might be made a bot! Can I stay this way?? Jellyfish! 19:45, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- Remain a boob and you may keep your booby prize :-) Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 19:58, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- Actually, and though it breaks my heart to say this, I think it would be unfair to stay a bot. It would be too confusing to other editors. Jellyfish! 20:02, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- Don't be silly; neither jellyfish nor bots have hearts. But your user right does inconvenience me, as your edits are only visible on recent changes if I click "show bot edits". Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 20:43, 31 May 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Stupid bot
We could do with more sysops around here. Since RWW has such a fragile activity rate, it's quite possible a vandal could start grawpizing things and not be noticed for several hours -- catastrophic, no?
Anyway, I vote for AKjeldsen, and maybe Sic Vita as well. Your thoughts? User:Jellyfish! 09:34, 5 June 2008 (CDT)
- Good point. However, I would rather wait until I am convinced Jeldsen or Vita will frequent this place. It is pointless to sysop them if they will not be regularly available to handle such attacks. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 14:43, 5 June 2008 (CDT)
- That's Kjeldsen, you anti-Dane! But I'd like to say that unless some new interest is sparked in this meta-wiki, it is adequately protected by the current administration. But I would vote for you, Jelly, as you seem to be the most frequent editor here of late! :P Sic Vita Est 22:58, 5 June 2008 (CDT)
- You could always consider limiting editing to registered users, and making the registration process go through admin approval. Simple, cheap, and Bohdan can complain about it? humanbe in 00:27, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- I think that's an excellent idea, Human. It's not like RWW wants or even needs a steady supply of editors. And if there are people who want to sign up here, they can always contact us on RW itself. Foolproof, I think -- as long as the software actually allows that option. User:Jellyfish! 08:56, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- Surely it must, I suspect many of these scribblewikis are set up as small projects with invite-only registration. Otherwise, people's little wiki-things would all get swamped by wandals. humanbe in 13:09, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- I would have thought that a drastic measure, but I shall look into it. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 14:26, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- Private registration is not available. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 14:43, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- I must say, the scibblewiki help site is indescribably bad. (For example, it mentions a certain feature being available to both "free and paid accounts", but nowhere else is there acknowledgment that paid wiki hosting is even offered.) Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 14:41, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- It's weird that closing sign-up is not available, after all, small wikis usually don't have the manpower to deal with serious vandal attacks. humanbe in 23:51, 6 June 2008 (CDT)
- There is a request-a-feature page where someone asks for that. But it was ignored like all the other requests. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 01:03, 7 June 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Button
That last vandal really did a number on us, didn't they? I can't find GodlessLiberal or Wikinterpreter anywhere. What do you think the problem is? And can I help at all? User:Jellyfish! 10:43, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- MediaWiki does not recognize question marks in titles. The software thinks Stupid bot was rerouting all the articles to each other, with all the originals lost. The history can still be accessed by checking Stupid bot's contributions and clicking the diff links, like here. I emailed Scribblewiki support for help. This happened on RW once (RA couldn't locate a debate page with an ampersand (&) in the title) and Tmtoulouse had to access it manually from the server. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 12:12, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- Should we restore the articles from those diffs and then deal with the "Hagger???" stuff later, maybe? User:Jellyfish! 13:11, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- Already tried that. It did nothing. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 18:05, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- I created the text from that Wikinterpreter diff as a new page and moved it to "Wikinterpreter". It seems to work, but I'm not sure it's perfect. What do you think? User:Jellyfish! 18:30, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- It'll do for now. I had thought of that, but I wanted to hold out until I could restore the history as well. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 18:40, 7 June 2008 (CDT)
- I know, it'd be a shame if the only real fix loses the history. I must try whatever Stupidbot did over at CP some time. User:Jellyfish! 18:45, 7 June 2008 (CDT)

[edit] Finished
Odd. I would've thought the templates would be listed in the allpages thing. What else have I overlooked? User:Jellyfish! 15:40, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
- Allpages lists pages by namespace. Mainspace talk pages, template, template talk, user, user talk, etc, are separately grouped. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 15:44, 9 June 2008 (CDT)

- Is that all of them, though? I'm not sure I got the redirects. User:Jellyfish! 16:33, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
- Redirects are included in allpages. Don't bother locking cat or image pages, as they can't be moved anyways. Same for the mediawiki pages. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 16:58, 9 June 2008 (CDT)

- Exactly what I was thinking! There's not much he could do, now (I hope) User:Jellyfish! 18:18, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
- He can't move pages anymore. We definitely movelocked them all. The worst he can do is blank pages, which is easily reverted. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 18:26, 9 June 2008 (CDT)
- Nah. The worst he can do is linkspam. I expect he has a couple of other tricks, too. User:Jellyfish! 18:29, 9 June 2008 (CDT)

(undent) It is official site policy. I am not sure if you were around for it, but we discovered that the pagemove vandalism permanently sunk some of our articles' history. To prevent this from happening in the future, we locked every page to prevent non-sysops from moving them. The right to edit normally is not impinged in any way; you simply have to ask a sysop (who do the vast majority of edits anyways) to move a page if you want it relocated. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 20:33, 10 June 2008 (CDT)
- Yah, pagemove is the worst (Willy on Wheels!) to fix. Especially if the pages were moved several times. Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. humanbe in 00:59, 11 June 2008 (CDT)

[edit] I give you... Protect-o-bot!
We should get a bot that move-protects articles automatically. I'd make it myself, but I am painfully stupid. Perhaps we could submit this request to Tmtoulouse? User:Jellyfish! 09:30, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
- All existing articles are already move locked; I don't see need for it. We can easily keep up with the pace of new articles created. Furthermore, protect-o-bot would require sysop powers. Bots too easily screw up; so sysopped, the potential consequences of a rampaging bot are too damaging to merit empowering it. Hans Johnson I'll get my hans on it 23:37, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
